- Maya needs to know what is happening all the time – Deputy Head of Locals – needs to know if good or bad things or happening.
- Dazzy – Locals Assistant – helps with running the programme – help the leaders and programme in general but focus on External engagement
- Both marketing the first years and letting year 13 students know that they have a choice other than colleges
- Stephen is the Head of the Locals programme – responsible for out in the University stuff – Locals is involved in everything that we should be – everyone who should know about locals does
- Information flows upwards – we have confidentiality within the team
Role of this committee
Represent and market the brand of the Locals Programme
Make sure people know what we do, how we can help them – project this out in anyway that we can
Social media management – we are focusing on Facebook and Instagram as well as the other emails that we already send, and extra emails
We will be implementing what is in the Marketing and Communications – if its not working we can change it
Also interacting with the schools – will most likely be mostly Dazzy and Maya and will be working with Schools liaison
Advertising locals for potential future students and helping current students feel proud of the brand
Marketing and advertising locals events to first years – this needs to be effective so that the first years know what they can do to get involved, know about student services, and wider university opportunities
Things that did not work last year
Not having a marketing and communications plan – we want to know what we did and how we did it so we can improve if needed
Posting too much on Facebook group – we need to prioritise what is important for first years to immediately know
We have the page and the group so that we can make events that are targeted to first year students – we don’t post events on the Page so random people don’t turn up
We want to be consistently posting – but we don’t want students to leave the group because there are too many posts
No clear goals for each platform – we no longer have snapchat
- We are focusing on Instagram and Facebook group and Facebook page
- We have clear goals in the M&C plans oLack of commitment from leaders
If everyone does the bear minimum then no one will have to take on all of the work
- Everyone committee to giving a above 0 commitment
- We are very mindful of not over loading you
- Notice board did not work – being replaced with another one, black board being taken down
- Waddles more visible – make sure he doesn’t get left in Maya’s car
- Engagement in the group is good – we did not use the page enough
- There will be some Instagram posts that will be shared onto the page
- We understand the posting schedule is strict but it can change if we are struggling
- Newsletters are getting close to being too long – any longer and people wouldn’t read it
- Monday is a good day – same time
-The challenges are a good idea they get people to read It - What puzzles did people like?
- Monday is a good day – same time
- Engagement at locals events was not great
- Tried to go to as many things are possible
- Feel as if the main group was dominating so people not in that group didn’t attend the events
- Having things on alternating days will help
- Admins have to make the events in the groups
Improvements for 2019
- Have thorough M+C plan which we will go through shortly
- Within the plan there are specific rules around posting (esp in the group)
- Maya and I have looked at what we would like to get out of each platform and we have decided to get rid of the Snapchat account and instead focus on the Facebook group, Facebook page and Instagram accounts
- Let’s do this
Things that worked in 2018
- We all knew how social media worked – as a consumer
- Consistently 50% of people are reading the emails
- We did have people commenting, and participating in Facebook polls
- Only external engagement posting things – Only Nathan, Maya, and Dazzy posting
- Claire will be doing the Monday debates and we will have other themed days
- Have zoomed in images and they have to figure out what it is
- Sing star nights are good
Schools
- None of the External engagement committee are from Dunedin
- Think back to your time at high school? What would make you join Locals?
- Try to article in the ODT again
- Campus watch doing pamphlet drops around North Dunedin
- Schools Liaison referring people
- Students who have found Locals already
- Tertiary open day
- Candy floss worked really well – need to have
Marketing and Comms plan
Everyone feels comfortable posting on social media
We need to have photos of each event
If anything is becoming too much please just let us know
We will be sending monthly emails to non – college address students
Quickly going through Marketing and Comms committee
Ideas for 2019
- Student for a Day – will be trying to streamline system
Meetings
- Will be meeting fortnightly
Follow Up
- Need to come up with ideas for tagline that we can test on people
